Cherokee National Forest's 300,000+ acres in northeast Tennessee offer picnicking, water play, miles of trails and forest roads, camping and backcountry solitude. Two local ranger stations and the Forest website provide regional outdoor recreation information. Maps, brochures, environmental education material is available at forest offices. Outdoor kiosks at both ranger stations provide 24-hour visitor information. Nolichucky-Unaka Ranger Station is located 15 miles from I-81. Watauga Ranger Station is located 1/4 mile from I-26. Office hours: Mon. -Fri. 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. F/HA. Forest developed sites have limited accessibility.
